EG 4.2 Tip: Splitting windows

In Enterprise Guide, Everything, Little SAS Book Series, SAS on December 14, 2009 at 2:54 pm

The windows of Enterprise Guide are as busy as an urban freeway at rush hour. Sometimes it would be easier to see what was happening if you had an extra set of eyes. Even SAS Institute can’t give you that, but you can simulate those extra eyes by splitting windows. Splitting a window allows you to see two things at once in the same amount of space. In EG 4.2, there are three areas that you can split: the workspace, the Resources pane, and the Project Log. However, the method for splitting each of these areas is completely different. Here is how you do it:

Workspace

To split the workspace, click the Workspace Layout icon in the menu bar. That’s simple enough. The trick is getting what you want displayed in each section of the workspace. To do this, click one of the pull-down lists at the top of workspace, and select the item that you want to see. Only items that are currently open are included in this list. So if the item you are looking for is not listed, then open it by double-clicking its icon in the Process Flow or Project Tree.

Resources pane

To split the Resources pane, click the down-arrow at the top of the Resources pane and select Show Multiple. At first nothing changes. Click one of the icons at the top of the Resources pane (Task List, SAS Folders, Server List, or Prompt Manager) and that window will open. You can open all four of these windows if you wish.

Project Log

To split the Project Log, click exactly on the top border of the log, and drag it down to reveal a second, hidden Project Log window.
